Concerns over water quality and adequate supply have become an important issue in Canada and the rest of the world in recent times. These concerns will become greater as the expanding human population puts more and more demand on this limited resource.Trained professionals capable of solving the complex problems related to sustaining or improving water quality to meet these demands is a projected area of growth in future employment forecasts.

The role of the Water Resource Science program is to supply the knowledge and skills necessary to enable graduates to work on water related issues from a firm scientific background.

Lakehead University provides an excellent setting for this unique program. We are located in a small urban setting with the huge boreal forest on one side and the largest fresh water lake in the world on the other. This setting provides a natural laboratory for studying the science and proper management of wetland areas while providing examples of the types of problems arising from industrial use, agriculture, logging and mining operations. We take full advantage of this natural setting by running a very field based program.
